Who's your favourite footballer?
|
Current or past.
Not necessarily your opinion on "the best".
Can be for their talent or just cos you liked them.
Doesn't have to have played for West Ham.
PAOLO DI CANIO for me. Genius on the pitch and showed proper heart every game.
Non-WHU player probably Ronaldo (fat one), might be a generational thing but watching him as a kid was unreal. That whole Brazil team from that era were insanely good
You lot?

Alan Devonshire.
Makes Jack Grealish look like a Sunday village player.
Would be worth £100m.

Watching old footage of Devonshire is like watching someone from the modern era sent back in time

For West Ham it has to be Di Canio. A perfect marriage.
Non West Ham, Paul Scholes, closely followed by Dennis Bergkamp.

Yeah, DEV for me. Maybe too young to appreciate it fully at the time, but as said below just insanely good and a player ahead of his time in this country. Or Frank McAvennie. On and off the pitch.
Non West Ham Zidane. Genius.

Not gonna say he was underrated, but Scholes was vastly overshadowed by the other big names in that era. Cantona, Giggs, Beckham etc.

Not in close to the general vicinity of the best but as a kid Craig Forrest. Club and country aligned and he won something for his country in 2000.

Di Canio for me. Meeting him & the circumstances of that meet are a brilliant story that I’ll bore ppl with for the rest of my life.
Outside of West Ham:
Baggio Totti Van Basten

Lee Trundle

WHU: Billy BONDS. Again, I'm probably too young to fully appreciate what he was and what he did for the club, but he epitomises what West Ham United is, and a big reason why I support the club.
Non-WHU: I always chose to be Marco van BASTEN when I was a kid in the playground. A wonderful striker.

They were just in the papers more.
And if you asked all those players who's the best they've played with, they'd probably say Scholes.

I only saw Trev play once. I saw Bonzo but not his prime and Dev I thought looked like a painter decorator and never got the genius till later in life. I loved Bish though.
